近年来，信托行业实现了快速发展，信托行业信托资产总额持续攀升。前瞻网发布的《2014-2018年中国房地产信托行业市场前瞻与投资战略规划分析报告》数据显示，2012年，信托行业资产总额达到了7.47万亿元，相比上年提高55.27%。伴随着信托行业快速发展，信托行业兑付危机频频爆发。
2012年以来，信托行业信托产品兑付风险的暴露日渐频繁，尤其是在房地产信托领域，信托兑付危机频频出现，数家大型信托公司接连曝出信托产品兑付危机，涉及金额都非常大，反映出信托产品市场风险积聚比较严重，部分风格激进、业务集中、兑付时间集中的公司面临着较大风险。
信托业频频爆发的兑付危机折射出了信托业发生的深层次困境。从我国信托行业业务结构变化情况来看，融资类业务占比近年来虽然有所下滑，但是依然占据主要部分，截至2012年末，信托行业融资类业务占比依然高达48.87%。

在不健康的业务结构和“刚性兑付”的双重压力下，信托行业发展显得“异常脆弱”，一旦经济下行，很多信托公司将面临着巨大的兑付压力，事实上，很多兑付风险依然没有暴露，而且在不断集聚。
从商业银行的经营情况来看，截至2013年3月末，商业银行的不良贷款余额达到5243亿元，同比增长20.7%，不良贷款率0.99%，比年初上升0.02个百分点。这已是自2011年第四季度以来，不良贷款余额连续六个季度反弹，未来一段时期不良贷款规模可能还会继续攀升。商业银行尚且如此，作为风险承受程度更高的信托行业，面临的兑付危机可想而知。
信托行业步入了调整期，行业发展亟需转型。从中国经济金融发展趋势来看，我国的信托公司发展空间依旧广阔，尽管要经历转型期带来的痛苦，以及承受来自其他金融机构的竞争压力，但是转型也是信托行业寻求可持续发展的不二选择。
