a. Explain how a country』s exchange rate is determined in the foreign exchange market.
Generally, when the demand of one country's currency increase(for instance, large trade surplus), its excahge rate, i.e, the currency's price will increase which is in accordance with the price and demand analysis.
b. Explain the effects on a country』s instry of a depreciation in its exchange rate.
When the depreciation occurs, the cost of the country's procts decreases against the foreign currencies(this meams, to the foreign comsumers, they become cheaper) and as a result, they become more competitive in the world market. For the country, the export increase. On the other hand, foreign procts become more expensive then before, people will choose more domestic procts and the import will decrease. Totally, the country's trade will obtain a surplus.
c. What is meant by foreign direct investment?
When we mention direct investment, we must know what is indirect investment. Both of them are investment, but how to distinguish one from another really depends on the laws and regulations. In some countries, when an investor holds 20% or more of a company's share, it is the direct investment. If an investor holds less than 20% of a company's share, or he only invests on the company bonds instead of shares, it is the indirct investment. When it comes to the foreign dircet investment, the only difference with direct investment is that the fund invested to the company is from oversea.
